Reason for the increase in overweight people in society
The number of people at risk of serious health problems due to being overweight is increasing. What is the reason for increase in overweight people in society?
How can this problem be solved?
Model Solution
Obesity is a serious health issue that puts a person at risk for various illnesses. The problem has worsened over the past few decades, mainly because of the increased prevalence of desk jobs. I believe this issue can be addressed using public awareness campaigns.
A significant development that happened due to the third industrial revolution is that desk jobs became the norm. Previously, most people were employed in the agricultural sector, which required a lot of physical effort. However, after the revolution, an increasing number of people took up jobs in the service sector, which is mainly done by sitting at a desk. This reduced the relevance of physical activity in people’s lives, contributing to a higher incidence of obesity.
The problem must be addressed. One solution is the government’s launch of a public awareness campaign that would help people realise just how dangerous an unhealthy diet and a lack of physical activity are. The campaign would emphasise that consuming excessive amounts of refined carbohydrates would result in obesity, which in turn causes health disorders such as diabetes and heart disease. It would also educate people on healthy habits that they should follow to avoid becoming overweight.
In conclusion, desk jobs have become more prevalent today, which has dramatically decreased the amount of physical activity that a person receives during the day, contributing to the higher rates of obesity in all countries. The problem can be addressed by launching an awareness campaign to inform people about the adverse effects of consuming too many refined carbohydrates and the healthy habits to follow.
