What is Grammar?

The term “grammar” frequently has two distinct definitions. The first is the one offered by linguists or those who conduct scientific research on language. They define grammar as the process by which speakers of a language organise their words into phrases, clauses, and sentences. This interpretation of grammar is concerned with how people really use language, not with how they are “supposed” to use it.

The second is the more often used definition, which most of us presumably acquired in school: a collection of imagined rules governing the proper and improper use of language. This notion of grammar embraces all aspects of language use, from spelling and punctuation to word choice and sentence structure, and it aims to explain how individuals should use language.

However, an extra step is necessary when writing an essay for the IELTS. It is necessary for you to make sure that the grammar in your essay is perfect.
