The second is the more often used definition, which most of us presumably acquired in school: a collection of imagined rules governing the proper and improper use of language. This notion of grammar embraces all aspects of language use, from spelling and punctuation to word choice and sentence structure, and it aims to explain how individuals should use language.
Grammar is always important for anything that needs to be written. Whether you’re writing a letter, an email, or writing an essay for school, knowing and using the correct grammar is essential. However, an extra step is necessary when writing an essay for the IELTS. It is necessary for you to make sure that the grammar in your essay is perfect.
A solid foundation in grammar is the key to a high band score in all modules of IELTS. It becomes even more crucial in the writing module. Unless you really know grammar very well it is unlikely that you will be able to construct complex and compound sentences. And simple sentences are not going to help you score more than 6 band.
