It is a waste of time to plan for the future

Some feel that it is a waste of time to plan for the future and that it is more important to focus on the present. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Solution

Planning is a part of humans’ daily lives. Therefore, some people believe that focusing on the current time is more vital than planning for the future. I completely disagree with that statement because the future and the present are equally important.

To begin with, the main reason why I believe that planning for the future is not a squander of time is that forethinking the future shapes the present. To illustrate, in order to achieve a long-term goal, some steps are required to be taken in the present. For example, high school students will not be able to study abroad without passing some exams such as the IELTS. Hence, students are required to prepare for their abroad studies a long time before it happens. Therefore, aimless individuals may fall behind compared to their peers with goals.

Furthermore, goals keep some people motivated to live their lives and keep trying and doing better. For instance, future promotion is a great motive for some employees to work efficiently. Without this hope of getting promoted, some company personnel will feel no point in working. The lack of goals and objectives lead some people to mental health issues such as depression and anxiety. Therefore, future planning creates a purpose in life. Thus, focusing only on the present without the future may be demotivating for some people.

In conclusion, although focusing on the present is important, I would argue long-term planning is essential too because future goals not only require hard work in the present but also is a motive for some people to keep going in life.
