Are books losing their importance?

Some people think books are losing importance as a source of information and entertainment. To what extent do you agree?

Many people have this idea in the mind that books are no more the source of knowledge and entertainment. I agree with the given statement. This essay will discuss some factors which are responsible for decreased interest in the reading books.

Firstly, we must draw a distinction between traditional print books and books in other digital formats such as e-books and audiobooks. It is true that print books are falling in popularity compared to their digital counterparts. The reason is that e-books and audiobooks are more convenient to carry and accessible to you at any time, whether you are standing in a line or sitting on a subway train. You can even easily make highlights and take notes on e-books.

Secondly, time is the biggest issue everyone is facing. Nowadays, people have a busier schedule than ever before. Thus, they are not getting enough time to read books, rather they prefer quick entertainment modes such as videos on social media.

In conclusion, it can be said that the reduced readership for physical books does not mean that people have stopped reading altogether, although, some sources of entertainment have dominated over books.
