Writing fundamentals are essential no matter what kind of content you are writing. You are supposed to know these basic grammatical and structural rules.
This short course has been designed to refresh your writing skills so you can use the standard and best writing practices in your essays, letters or whatever content you write in English.
There are three main sections in this course. The first one talks about using correct punctuation. The section describes best practices for writing effective sentences and, in turn, effective paragraphs. The last section is about other best practices besides correct sentences and punctuation.
Punctuation
Punctuation imparts quiet intonation to our work. We employ a comma, a period, an exclamation point, or a question mark to halt, stop, emphasise, or query. Punctuation enhances the clarity and precision of writing; it enables the writer to halt, pause, or emphasise specific areas of the phrase.
This tutorial will discuss how to utilise punctuation marks in the most generic sense. Particular emphasis is placed on the most frequent errors that arise when punctuation does not adhere to normal written English rules. The rules and examples provided here are not intended to be exhaustive analyses of all punctuation usages, but rather to provide a rapid overview of some of the most common punctuation errors students make when writing.
Additionally, the section discusses the usage of apostrophes and capital letters; they are not related to punctuation directly, but rather to mechanics and spelling. As with punctuation marks, however, awareness of their appropriate use is necessary for effective writing.
